The special paint schemes for NASCAR‘s Throwback Weekend at Darlington Raceway keep coming in. In the latest development of the tribute schemes, Joey Logano and Team Penske will sport a throwback paint scheme. It is inspired by Bobby Allison’s car and will be seen in the Southern 500 race at Darlington Raceway on September 6.
The design of Logano’s car is a tribute to Bobby Allison’s No. 22 Buick from the 1985 NASCAR Cup Series season.
Allison won the Cup Series in 1983 and has also won the Daytona 500 three times in 1978, 1982, and 1988. He is also a four-time winner of the Southern 500. Bobby Allison is named as one of NASCAR’s 50 greatest drivers of all-time.
Joey Logano drives the No. 22 Ford Mustang GT for Team Penske in the Cup Series. Logano has a good record at the South Carolina oval, with three top-five finishes and six top-10 finishes in 13 starts.
