Joey Logano and the No. 22 Hertz Ford Mustang team fought an ill-handling car all night long, but ran solidly inside the top-five and finished fourth Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway. Logano qualified second for the 250-lap event, missing the pole by just 0.01 seconds. As the race began, Logano slipped to third and ran there for the first 50 laps of the event before an early competition caution. Following the stop, Logano continued to run third while fighting a Hertz Mustang that was loose in, tight center and loose off. Over the next 200 laps, crew chief Greg Erwin made several air pressure, wedge and track bar adjustments, but none of the changes made a big enough improvement to allow Logano to become a contender for the win. Logano ran anywhere between third and sixth for the rest of the event. Late in the race, Logano restarted sixth and was able to race his way to fourth at the checkers, notching his seventh top-five finish of the season. The No. 22 team lost just three points in the NASCAR XFINITY Series Owners’ Championship point standings and now leads the No. 54 from Joe Gibbs Racing by 82 points with just eight races remaining.

“We just weren’t very good tonight. I felt like at times we were maybe a little better than where we finished and other times we finished where we deserved to. We just need to make our cars faster. We were racing back there for fifth most of the day. We need to make the cars faster on both sides, the front side and back side. We have some work to do here at Richmond with the Mustang but we will work on it and get better for next time. I’m proud of this Hertz team. I’m looking forward to getting back in the car at Kansas.”
