No. 20 Sport Clips Toyota:
Subway Jalapeno 250 at Daytona
· Joey Logano returns to Daytona International Speedway to make just his second NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start at the 2.5-mile track. Logano made his first series start at DIS in February when he drove the No. 20 Toyota to a 20th-place finish after starting eighth. He was poised for a solid finish, but scraped the wall with less than 30 laps to go avoiding an accident. The No. 20 Toyota had the right front fender knocked in which led to a cut tire on the last corner. It dropped Logano from a top-10 to 20th.
· Welcome Back Sport Clips! Sport Clips will adorn the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) Nationwide Series Toyota this weekend for the second and final time as the primary sponsor this season. Sport Clips is a national sport-themed hair-care franchise for men and boys that can be found in 36 states. Founded in 1995, the company has over 650 stores nationwide. Sport Clips also sponsored Logano and the No. 20 car at Phoenix International Raceway where he started from the outside pole and finished fourth.
· Can he make it four in a row? Logano has three-consecutive pole positions in the races in which he has competed in the No. 20 Toyota. Logano captured poles at Dover, Kentucky and Loudon (he did not compete at Nashville or Milwaukee). In those three events, he has one win and two second-place finishes.
· Logano will be making his 14th start of the season in the Sport Clips Toyota. He has led 317 laps and completed every lap of competition in which he was entered. He has accumulated two wins, three poles, eight top-five and 10 top-10 finishes. His average start this season is seventh while his average finish is an impressive 6.2. Despite having skipped three Nationwide Series events, he still sits fifth in the standings.
· The Joe Gibbs Racing Nationwide teams are a force to be reckoned with this season. The No. 18 and No. 20 Toyotas have finished 1-2 three times already this year and have combined to win three of the last four races and four of the last five pole positions. Logano’s teammate Kyle Busch drives the No. 18 for JGR in the Nationwide Series and has won five events this season. Logano and Busch have combined for seven wins and have led 1,840 laps of the 3,175 laps run this season.
· Logano will pilot chassis #2053 which he previously raced this year in Daytona (20th-place finish) and Talladega (3rd). It is also the same chassis that swept all three superspeedway races in the Nationwide Series in 2008.
Joey Logano Quotes
“It’s cool to have Sport Clips back on the car this weekend, hopefully we can get them a win. This team is really running well, last week it killed me not winning at Loudon. I was so close to a weekend sweep! I really feel like every time I step in this car I have a shot to win. The past three races have been unbelievable. We have three consecutive poles, I was trying to figure out how often that’s been done before. That just shows how strong this team is and how great Dave (crew chief Rogers) is as a leader.
“I learned a lot in the Nationwide Series race in February. I was trying to learn how to draft and earn the respect of the series veterans. We had a pretty good car and I was able to run up front quite a bit. We should be just as good if not better this weekend now that I have some drafting experience. Plus this team has great momentum going.”
